Thanksgiving makes a lot of women uneasy because every day before that women are counting calories and feeling bad for eating a piece of bread. The point of Thanksgiving is to feast and have gratitude because crops were not growing and it could have meant famine and starvation. Native Americans stepped in to help and the Pilgrims and they were so grateful they had food. Now we have an abundance of food and should be grateful. It used to be stressful I would think of a plan before I went to my grandmothers to eat. I would only have one bread roll, no seconds, and if possible no sweets. Then the reality is I see my family I feel happy and then I have three bread rolls, and pie. I then would be myself up and say man I need to work out extra hard because I was so terrible for eating. Plus, there are always those family members who are watching their weight to who also try to make everyone else feel guilty. So here are three tips on how you can make your Thanksgiving guilt free.
1. Meditate. Before you go to your family’s or before everyone starts coming. Take 3-5 minutes in a quiet space to just breathe. Meditate on the intentions you have for the day. Think of what you are thankful for. Think of what you are thankful for internally and externally. If you have your health be thankful for that and externally could be being thankful for family. This will help set your focus on the day itself and back to your purpose instead of worrying about things that you don’t need to be worrying about like calorie counting.
2. Just Eat. No one should feel guilty for wanting to eat. Your body sends signals of being hungry. So just eat. Sometimes we freak ourselves out and it makes our bodies send signals of panic so we eat more and don’t even enjoy it. Instead, listen to your body and give it what it wants.
3. Ignore Negative Family Members. As I said there is always those family members who comment on appearances or comments about how unhealthy the food is. You just must simply ignore them. Everyone is on a different journey. If you have moved past thinking of only appearances or have other things going for you then you need to focus on yourself. Some people will stay stuck in their ways of thinking and you must just let it be. If you have grown to move forward to better thinking about food and your body then be proud that you have.
I hope you all enjoy yourselves today. I am thankful for my faith and how strong I’ve become this past year. I am thankful to have people around who love me. I am thankful for being able to move forward and to develop a better me. I am thankful to be able to help others with their body image issues and to help them realize they are rock stars! God Bless.
